Pengiktirafan di bawah Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity
Silat ialah seni mempertahankan diri yang hidup dan berakar dari kepulauan Melayu. Silat telah dikesan seawal Kerajaan Langkasuka (abad ke-2) sehingga pemerintahan era Kesultanan Melaka (abad ke-13). Terdapat banyak gerakan silat yang diilhamkan daripada pergerakan anatomi manusia, alam semula jadi tumbuhan dan haiwan. Silat juga menjadi medium interaksi sosial masyarakat di Malaysia, contohnya silat sering menjadi acara penting semasa majlis perkahwinan orang Melayu serta acara pembukaan majlis dalam majlis rasmi kerajaan Malaysia. Silat telah diiktiraf sebagai Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity oleh UNESCO pada tahun 2019. Pengiktirafan silat oleh UNESCO telah mengangkat martabat seni mempertahankan diri negara di peringkat antarabangsa.

Inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity
Silat is a self-defence art and survival rooted in the Malay Archipelago. It was traced at the early of Langkasuka Kingdom (2nd century) till the reign of Melaka Sultanate era (13th century). There are many styles of silat, inspired by the movements of human anatomy, nature and animals. Silat is also a medium of exhibiting the social interaction among communities, for example, silat often become an important event during the Malay wedding ceremony and the opening ceremony during official functions of the Malaysian government. Silat has been successfully inscribed on the Representataive List by UNESCO in 2019. The recognition of silat by UNESCO has elevated the country’s art of self-defence internationally.
